April 2021. What A Year It Has Been...

Dear Friends,

What a year this has been, yet despite all the difficulties we are still here and progress is being made and hopefully, in a few weeks’ time, we may be able to meet up for a wet or two or more! Much has happened recently within our branch, as you all know that Tony has retired as Secretary,

Richard Kingshott has been appointed his replacement and David (Paddy) Wilkes has been appointed to organise and co-ordinate branch events. We have wished Tony well in his retirement and now welcome Richard and Paddy to the branch committee. The on-going success of our branch is fundamentally down to our fantastic membership and those individuals whom readily step up to the plate, to keep the branch moving forward, thank you gents.

Also, we have been really, fortunate to have Susannah Perry-Greene, a logo branding and website designer, who has volunteered to assist and upgrade our website http://www.perry-greenedesign.com/

With our focus in looking for light at the end of the tunnel with the on-going pandemic lock down conditions, we have been proactive in arranging to supply our branch RMA City of London remembrance wreathes. This is to our dear friends in both Zeebrugge and Dover council, for their annual remembrance services in April. I have sadly been made aware of one of our past invited guests that attended our Zeebrugge weekend, Col Michael Reece OBE (rtd) has sadly passed away on 21st March. He had been the RMHS Chairman for six years retiring last year. On his retirement he was appointed a Vice President of the Society.

He was the first RM officer to command a Royal Navy helicopter squadron and the only RM officer to command both a RN squadron and a RM Commando. He was the last commanding officer of 41 Commando RM.

May He Rest In Peace

Please continue to stay alert and safe. With very best wishes,

Graeme Golightly

Branch Chairman
