On a bright Saturday morning in central London, the RMA City of London branch gathered for its first-ever Bootneck Brunch — a new initiative aimed at bringing Royal Marines veterans and their families together in a relaxed, informal setting outside the usual monthly meet.
Held at the Victoria Taps near Victoria Station on Saturday 24 January, the venue served up an excellent breakfast for under £7, with the added bonus of a semi-private area and a few early wets for those so inclined. Eighteen members turned out, including one new face — a very welcome sign for what is hoped to become a regular fixture in the branch calendar.
The idea behind the brunch is simple: to offer another opportunity for branch members to meet, catch up, and stay in touch — especially for those who can’t always make the second Thursday evening meetings at the Union Jack Club. Whether it’s work, family life, or just a preference for daylight socials, Bootneck Brunch offers a fresh way to stay connected to the Corps family.
There was plenty of banter, a few dits shared, and more than one conversation that ran well past breakfast. For many, it was a welcome reminder of the camaraderie that makes this branch what it is — no agenda, no formalities, just good food and good company.
This first outing sets a strong precedent for what we hope will become a standing tradition.
Thanks to everyone who made the effort to attend and support the event — especially those who travelled across town to be there. Here's to many more.
